Castell Conwy

Castell Conwy is one of the most consistently haunted castles in Wales, and one of the most unusual. Visitors have reported smelling cooking or burning. This is in fact a very rare drychiolarogl, or phantosmia. It is a smell-ghost, and is encountered so often that it has somewhat lost its wonder for the people of Conwy. It is a remnant of the Cistercian monastery that preceded the castle, and two monks can often be seen busying themselves along the corridors or battlements at twilight. The smell is incense, and is unlike the modern version. It has never been satisfactorily described - one person's impression varies greatly from another's.
