Information

Ynys Seiriol is one of the most beautiful but haunted islands in Cymru. It was once one of many areas colonised and controlled by the Kingdom of Cantre'r Gwaelod. Overpopulation, the shortage of land and a desire to expand trade drove the kingdom to grow, but its tragic collapse led to the abandonment of Ynys Seiriol.
Attempts to found a monastery on the island fell victim to what is known as the "great curse", and access to the island is now completely prohibited and it has been sealed by bardic workings.
It is still possible to see spirits around the ruins at night, and these can sometimes be viewed from shore - it is perfectly safe as long as you do not land.
The island is also frequented by palod (puffins) who pass in between our world and the otherworld. It is often said that these birds are the returning souls of the monks of the island, but their strange behaviour is simply because they are creatures of two worlds.
