Elan Valley is the site of Wales' first mythological reserve in Britain. The spray from Caban Coch reservoir coming over the wall of the dam has created ideal conditions for the Atlantic or Celtic Rainforest that is the natural home of the Welsh Ellyllon. Ellyllon are small, humanoid creatures around 15cms high that once inhabited much of the country. With the decline of their habitat, it is now unusual to see an Ellyll. Elan Valley's hope is that by creating a reservation of newly-planted trees such as oak and ash, there will be a return of these magical fairy-like creatures. You can visit the outside of the reserve, but for obvious reasons visitors are not allowed inside the plantation.
