Information
This is the old lookout post of the North, placed so that no enemy may approach unseen. It is one of the few places in Cymru from which the Gwerddonau Llion can be seen in bright sunlight. There are fortress and defence ramparts and remnants still to be seen. Below is the Afon Elwy, in which Queen Nest lost her fabled ring. It was later recovered inside a salmon (the story appears in a window in St. Asaph Cathedral), but the power of the watchtower of Mynydd y Gaer is so great that an observer in the appropriate state can see the past. If you look carefully, you may still see the glint of the ring in a bend in the river. This was of old the playground of giants. Now the giants are few and extremely unlikely to venture into the open.
WHAT'S IN THE AREA
The Hawk and Buckle is a seventeenth-century inn, but there has been a hostelry on the site since much earlier. It is a quiet, restful place in the centre of the village of Llanefydd in the plunging valleys and hills of Denbighshire.
It is the centre of a Site of Special Mythological Interest because of the unusual number of mythological sites in the vicinity.
The Inn is famed for its Myrddin’s Mist cocktail. Guidance is available to local mythological sites from the landlord - who is known to occasionally serve in armour.
